In 1965, I was less than a year old when I had this experience. I was sitting on the living room floor in front of the couch. My parents were in the house somewhere, but I didn't know where. I was alone. I decided to crawl around. I crawled over and around to the left side of the couch, and when I got to the back left corner I noticed there was plenty of room for me to crawl between the back of the couch and the wall. I crawled behind the center of the couch. The material under the couch was wripped open at the seam. The opening was big enough for me to crawl into it. I remember thinking, "Cool, a secret place where I can hang out and my parents will never know." I started crawling in until I noticed it was quite cramped because of the insulation or something above me. I got on my belly, grabbed the material under my hands, and pulled myself in further. I did this repeatedly until I was far inside the right of the couch. Then I noticed a big problem. I was running out of oxygen, and it was getting harder and harder to breath. I thought, "I have to get out of here so I can get air." I couldn't figure out how to back up and turn around because it was too cramped. I struggled and struggled but I realized I was going nowhere. The struggling made me need more oxygen. Soon there was almost no oxygen, making me too weak to struggle anymore. I gave up and began suffocating.
I was in the ER lying on a bed. I had needles, IV, and pain meds going through my body when I told the nurse I think I am going to throwup. She handed me a plastic contenter. According to the nurse, as I sat up to take the container, my eyes rolled back in my head and I fell back on the bed. My heart stop and I flatlined.
I was told that I had given a friend of mine an STD, which was not true, but at the time I was told that I needed to have penicillin. He took me to the hospital where they proceeded to give me shots. A male nurse gave me the shots. I was fine at first but as he gave me more shots, I started feeling weird and told him something was wrong. He tried to assure me that there was nothing wrong, but the room started spinning and I got a death grip on his stomach while saying make me believe it. I was on my stomach and I started having convulsions, which were so strong that my legs were buckling up under me and hitting my chest. Because I had my hand on the nurse's stomach he couldn't get to a call button, but the sound of convulsions got and someone came rushing into the room and said, "Oh my God." By this time I could not see anything in the room, only a tunnel with a really bright light at the end of it. About that time, two other people came into the room. I knew I was hyperventilating and trying to stay calm, but I had a great deal of pain.
The accident was traumatic and the surgeries were long. During the surgery, I had moved out of my body. I saw myself and then quickly began floating in a tunnel that was made of white light. It felt as though I was leaving my memories behind while moving in the tunnel. It was slow in the beginning, but I saw myself moving at an incredible pace. All of a sudden it came to an end. I found myself floating in an open space. This was the moment when I had no memories; it was very quite. I felt the presence of two people with me, but I didn't see them. I just felt their presence and I wanted to see them. I turned to each side, but I still couldn't see their faces. It seemed that they had bodies without faces. Along with the two souls, I moved in a direction unguided by anything. I saw myself seated in the presence of a being together with the accompanying souls.
When I was nine years old, I was hit by a car while riding my bike. I was thrown 75 feet and landed on my head, injury which crushed part of my skull (it was about a pear-sized hole over my right parietal lobe). A surgeon and his wife were packing their car for a weekend trip and witnessed the accident. The surgeon immediately responded and gave me CPR and mouth- to-mouth while his wife called 911. In the three minutes it took for the ambulance to arrive, I lost a third of my blood on the pavement. I was rushed to the hospital where I was given a blood transfusion. My ruptured spleen was removed and over the course of the next eight hours shards of bone were removed meticulously from my brain by two neurosurgeons. My vital signs dropped and I fell into a coma.
